A limited-series of classes for karateka interested in beginning kumite (sparring) debuts in March.
Interested in kumite (sparring) but don't want to start in the regular kumite classes at the dojo? To help students (regardless of rank) try kumite and build a basic foundation in skills and experience sparring, a limited series of Beginner Kumite classes will be offered at the Saturday 12:30PM timeslot.
The first edition in this limited series will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 12:30PM.
Qualification to Attend
This class is for students who have limited or no experience in kumite. To make this accessible to as wide a range of students as possible, Adult students of all ranks may take this class. However, prior permission of your instructor is needed.
This class is not a substitute for either the regularly scheduled weekly kumite class (Fridays at 7PM) or the rotating Saturday 12:30PM class that offers kumite to students of all skill levels. It is specifically designed for students, regardless of rank, who have limited or no kumite experience.
Content
The class will review the composition and use of kumite equipment, as well as basic techniques for both semi-contact sparring and point-fighting (tournament) kumite.
Students will have the opportunity to use their equipment and to spar with partners under supervision, and will also learn a variety of skills doing drills.
Pathway to Other Classes
This limited series of classes is also designed to prepare students for the new Tuesday General Class that will offer beginner kumite, as well as attending the other kumite classes that the dojo offers.
In addition to this first edition of the class, at least one more class in this series will be offered at a later date.
