Special Needs Classes

Goju Karate' central mission is to bring the benefits of karatedo to all students who have a passion for becoming better. Some of our students need special help in accessing the benefits of karate on their journey through life, and we are committed to offering that special help.

Funded by generous support from donors to the Goju Karate Kizuna Fund, ("kizuna" loosely translates as "community" in Japanese), we are proud to offer these classes at no charge to special needs students; tuition and a standard Gi is provided to all students without cost:

  • General Class: Students with Special Visual Needs
  • General Class: Students with Special Needs

These classes are held each week. Please see the Class Schedule for details on days and times when these classes are offered.

Typically they include about five minutes of stretching, about twenty minutes of basic techniques and strength exercises, twenty minutes of fast-paced combination techniques, and fifteen minutes of advanced topics including kata (kata are combinations of movements which can be very complex). This class is designed specifically for students who have special visual needs, including those that have no vision, low-vision, or other visual impairments. Currently, there are no age requirements or limitations in this class: please contact the Front Desk for details.

Special Note Regarding Our Dojo

Our dojo at 622 Lindaro Street was specifically designed to accommodate students who may have special needs; our locker facilities include ADA-accessible showers as well as standard ADA-accessible bathrooms. The rest of the dojo is spacious and well-designed, and was built with the idea of being all-inclusive for students at different levels of mobility and capability.
